An Antique Mahogany Desk in Verdigris Green

This is one of my favorite projects I've done in a while. Oh, I'd just love to keep this for myself. It's a solid mahogany writing desk. It original had a leather top, which are about as functional as an underwater BBQ grill, so I added a new solid pine top in a rich natural hue. I painted the case in a custom mixed shade of green called 'Verdigris'. It's the color copper gets as it oxidizes. I left the bale brass drawer pulls unpolished because I love how the soft patina plays against the fresh pale green. The case is finished with distressing and dark wax, as usual. It's finished on all four sides so it can float in a room, if need be.

  2. I have a desk almost like this one! It came from my grandmother's aunt whom I used to visit when visiting my grandma. It's got a dark finish like yours had, but not the leather top. I really don't like it very much anymore as it is, but hadn't decided what to do with it. Now I think I know! Is the paint you used a flat finish like chalk paint or something else? The color is very nice. Well done. Thanks for sharing it.
