This is the perfect example of finding chairs and a table separately, but them being the perfect combination. I picked these chairs up several months ago. They're a lovely Federal style, with saber legs, and graceful lines. I wanted to wait for the perfect dining table with which to pair them. Last weekend I found that perfect dining table. Both the table and chairs are solid maple. I'd say they all date to about 1940 or so. The double pedestal on the table base is soooo pretty. I painted the chairs and table a rich black, sanded the table top, stained, and sealed it, and recovered the chairs. Wouldn't this be pretty in a breakfast nook or eat-in kitchen!

Love the black- it is very striking!

DeleteWhat paint did you use?
DeleteWhen I do high traffic furniture like dining sets in black, I like to use oil based paint. It's tricky to use, takes a long time to dry, but is SO durable.
DeleteYour work is fabulous! Does this beautiful table have leaves?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Seeing this set makes we wish we had a dining area to have a table/chairs in. Love the style and the black with wood top is so gorgeous. Black is getting to be a go to color now for furniture. It looks great. You did such a wonderful job. Enjoy. The base is very similar to our daughters dining set only it's a rectangle. She got her set at our local thrift store years ago for $30 and her husband gel stained it, gorgeous. Her chairs are similar also.
