An Antique Windsor Bench

The king of all benches, and it's mine! I picked this up from craigslist yesterday. I've wanted a long Windsor bench for ages. They've all been way more than I want to spend. And then I saw this gorgeous piece on craigslist, and knew I had to have it. I drove half way across the state to get it, but it was well worth the trip. I love it. I was thinking of painting the bench black, as I never ever have red in my house (it's my least favorite color), but then I saw that the paint was pretty old, probably put on around the time someone did a little work on the bench, maybe around 1940.
The bench itself has a provenance, which is always so fun. The previous owner told me that it came from the one room schoolhouse in Chaplin, CT. I did a little research last night, and discovered a picture of Chaplin's one room school house. It gives me goosebumps a little. The Windsor bench itself probably dates to 1850-1875. It's in wonderful condition. The arms were re-enforced with threaded rods at some point, but otherwise it's perfect. Even though it's 7.5 feet long, it fits soooo well on my porch. Have you had any really exciting finds lately??

Here's Chaplin, Connecticut's one room schoolhouse. This was the original home of my bench!
