Summer Decor: Family Room

As promised, here are some pictures of the new decor in the dining room. I really tried to stick to a palette of deep teal and pale aqua. Most of the color inspiration for the entire decor change came from the antique ship portrait on the wall. I think I'm going to need to pick up a couple more accessories before I can complete the front porch to my satisfaction. That's fine by me though, gives me something to hunt for at the flea market. Enjoy the pics!

Two of my favorite antique signs. One for the husband, a piano teacher, and one for me, a pseudo antique dealer. I got a pair of antique green shutters at a tagsale a couple weeks ago for $5 each. I put the other one in the kitchen.

New Decor- The dining room

I worked for most of the day on the new summer decor in the house. I've got the dining room and family room all set. The kitchen is ready but I'm storing a giant farm table in there until a client picks in up on Friday, so no pics yet. I'm not happy with the porch yet, still a work in progress. And of course, my upstairs still looks like a construction site- so I didn't do any re-decorating up there.
But I wanted to show you the progress so here are some pictures of the dining room with the new nautical/tropical look. I've got some projects almost complete and will have some furniture before and after posts later in the week. Oh, and most exciting of all, I've finally figured out how to make the images on the blog larger, so I'll be back trekking through the blog to enlarge the photos from old posts.

This is the chaos that ensues when I switch decor. Half the stuff gets taken down and stored in the garage attic, the other half in getting brought in from the garage attic. It's pretty labor intensive.

After on the corner of the dining room. The other chest has been moved to the basement to be transformed into a kitchen island. This chest was on the porch... I know I need to paint one of the drawer pulls still. The painting is an original oil w done by a Nun, I got it at the Goodwill last summer.

Here's my new cupboard that you saw in the previous post. My husband thinks I should paint it a brighter white.  I'm kind of toying with the idea of painting it a light green.

This is actually in the dining room but it's one of my favorite finds of all time. It's an antique oil painting that I got an antique store for $10 a couple years ago. I love all the colors and there's something so mysterious and romantic about it. 

The new cupboard in the dining room

We just carried the cupboard inside and I got it all set up with my antique bowls. I was so excited I just had to put up some pics right away. Now bear in mind that tomorrow I'm transitioning over to the tropical/nautical summer decor- so the stuff on top is really just staged for the photo and will almost certainly be changed tomorrow. But's it' cute right? It fits just perfectly in the spot!

New Acquisitions!

Yesterday was supposed to be town wide tagsale day...but it was a complete wash out. I mean, it POURED. But I was determined and got up at the crack of dawn anyway just incase anyone decided to go ahead and have their sale indoors, or in their garage. I'm glad I went out in the tempest because I did not actually do too badly. I managed to hit up about five tagsales and I got a nice 18th century bow back windsor (to keep), a wonderful rock maple dresser (to sell), a set of wrenches (for a dime?!), and a cute vintage necklace. I've got pictures of the windsor. The rock maple dresser is still at the Anchor Lodge where I bought it- because I didn't want to bring it home in the back of truck in the rain...and they haven't been open since, so they're kinda holding my dresser hostage.
The flea market today was great. Lots and lots of really wonderful and tempting things. I scored a lovely late 19th century dresser, another pretty vintage necklace, an antique crate, two wrought iron garden sculptures, and a truly fabulous antique three tier garden shelf, and finally a breathtaking antique cupboard. Pictures are below ~ I hope you found great stuff this weekend too!

My new antique cupboard. It's about 5ft tall and 30" wide, only about a foot deep. It's sooooo cute. All the original hardware. The lady that I bought it from fixed it up, so I don't even need to work on it! Remember how I said I wanted an industrial shelf? Well never mind, this is going to go in that spot instead. $30!!!

This great pair of vintage metal sculptures were $2.50each from my favorite vendor at the flea market. 

I kind of want to put them inside the house because they're so pretty- but I think I'll  end up putting them in my garden, maybe training some morning glories up them.

I think the antique dresser is chestnut. It's in perfect condition. I haven't decided yet what to do with it- Kitchen Island? Keep it a dresser? If you like it, let me know!

Here's my wonderful plant stand. This is definitely going in my house. The guy wanted $20 but I talked him down to $12.

I'm such a sucker for these crates. This one is pretty early and has great graphics. $10

And here's the bow back windsor chair I snagged at a tagsale. The legs are replaced, but the rest of the chair dates to about 1770. Probably Easter Connecticut or Massachusetts. $20

What I want now

Tomorrow's town wide tag sale (an event I've been looking forward to since winter) is going to be completely rained out. It's a shame because not only was I hoping to grab some new furniture projects, but I also have an item on my 'must have' list that I may have been able to find. Oh well, there's always the flea market on Sunday.
Anyway- what I'm really dying to find is an antique or vintage industrial rolling shelf. I know, I know- everybody wants one of these right now. But a girl can dream! I have just the spot in my dining room for one, and I'm just gonna keep my eyes peeled and my ear to the ground until one comes my way. Here are some very drool-worthy examples.

Wonderful heavy dimensions on this one. And so much storage. It'd be great to display neat stacks of magazines

The combination of old wood and steel is stunning here. It just looks a little tippy to me somehow.

This one is perfect and if I saw it out in the wild I'd be willing to put down some serious coin to snag it. The early paint surface is fantastic and the tall narrow shape would be ideal for my dining room.

Mid century modern and so funky and cool.

This one wouldn't fit in my dining room, but I might buy a bigger house just to accommodate it!

Another breathtaking option. I love that this one is all metal. It would look amazing in my house. So tough and interesting.
