A Solid Maple Dresser with Ferns

I've had this sweet little vintage solid rock maple dresser for some time. It too was in a paint color that may have been holding it back. I've revisited the surface in a pale spring green, swapped the drawer pulls out for cool garden-esque iron ones, and embellished the drawer front with a fern motif. Would be so sweet in a child's room!

An Antique Mahogany Tall Chest in Gray

If at first you don't succeed try, try again. I've had this gorgeous antique solid mahogany c.1930 Federal dresser since September and initially painted it in a butterscotch tan with white detailing. It was a little off the beaten path color wise, which might explain why, now the first week in December, it was still in my workshop. This is a fabulous piece and clearly the color wasn't doing it justice, so let's try this again. Here it is once again but in a soft gray, distressed, and dark waxed with the original stamped oval Federal pulls.

An Antique Dresser in Deep Blue

A client brought me this spectacular antique dresser to refinish a couple weeks ago. It has great lines and was in fabulous condition but she wanted to give it a bit more pizzaz. We went with a custom deep blue, Deep End, that's been requested quite a lot recently. I sanded, stained, and sealed the top, and swapped the drawer pulls for cut glass knobs as well.

Also, I hate that light fixture in my kitchen, I really really should replace it.

A Vintage Lane Cedar Chest in Cottage White

Another custom project for a client- This handsome c.1960 cedar chest was in desperate need of an update. You can't quite tell in the 'before' pictures but it was been poorly refinished once before and there was a sticky opaque shellac covering every surface. I cleaned the cedar chest, sanded it, and prepped it for paint. The client selected a simple white for the case, but wanted to integrate more wood, if possible, so I sanded stained and sealed the drawer fronts along with the top, and was pleasantly surprised to see the lovely solid maple of the drawer front and maple veneer of the top were both in beautiful condition.
      Finally I changed out the boring drawer pulls for a set of sassy bail brass pulls, to add a little twinkle.

An Antique Mahogany Dresser in Blue

This was a fun little custom project for a client. She plans to turn the little dresser into a bathroom vanity for a half bath. It should be perfect for that. We searched for a while for just the right color, a blue that had a little green in it, not too light, not too dark. When we couldn't find a pre mixed shade I went ahead and mixed the client a custom color, called 'Weathervane'. We swapped the pierced Chippendale pulls out for glass knobs but kept the sweet escutcheon plates. The mahogany veneer top had some damage that prevented it from being refinished back to wood, but I think I like it better painted anyway. I lightly distressed it and finished it with my custom dark wax. It has a nautical feel, I think, so I staged it with some coastal antiques from my own collection including that fantastic vintage ship portrait print, which I scored on Sunday at the goodwill for $3.99.
       Happy December! I think it's going to be a warm winter, which is oh so fine with me!
