Antique Mahogany China Hutch
I've lost count of how much furniture I've refinished now. It's somewhere around 1000 pieces. I know, that's nuts. I'm sure I have whatever the sawdust equivalent to black lung is by now. Of all the pieces I've done- Every Single One this hutch here is my very favorite. The fact that it was given to me by a friend makes it all the better. It's Thomasville brand, maybe about 1950 or so. It's over the top elegant. The trim and detail is just breathtaking. I painted the piece in a rich antique cream, lightly distressed it to play up the lines, and finished it with a dark wax. The interior is a custom mixed shade that dances somewhere between aqua and ice blue depending on the lighting. I also swapped out those bulky wood pulls for antique ones that felt more appropriate. The wood ones were original, but clearly an act of momentary design insanity on the part of the furniture designer. There's a matching dining set too.

ReplyDeleteLovely ! It's amazing you have done over 1000 pieces. It's always a joy to see your pics.
ReplyDeleteThis piece looks 200% better than the original finish. The light blue interior adds to the beauty. Thank you for sharing it with us. Krys W.
