Handsome Dresser from 1901
I love when a piece of furniture comes with a bit of provenance. It makes the entire refinishing experience a bit more personal. Some clients dropped this dresser off a couple weeks ago to be refinished. We opted to go with refinishing the drawer fronts and top, painting the rest of the case in a deep shade of eggplant. Working with mahogany veneer is so satisfying, it's got oh so much character. I sanded, stained, and sealed the drawers and top, rearranged the drawer pulls a bit as it was missing a few essential bits, but we wanted to salvage as much of the original hardware as possible, and painted the rest of it. When I was working on the piece I discovered the back of one of the top drawers had been stamped by every person who'd worked on it during the original construction, in October 1901. I went ahead and added my name and date and that it was refinished in November 2014. Maybe in another hundred years someone will get a chuckle out of it, the next time it's refinished.
Absolutely, totally and completely STUNNING.
