Top Picks from Eldred's Americana and Art Auction

Next up on the auction docket is Eldred's Americana. They're located on the cape and their sales are always ripe with fun marine and nautical objects- which feel oh so timely with this newly arrived spring weather! You can check out the entire sale here on their website http://www.eldreds.com/auctions/index/sale/798. I've gone through the whole thing and picked my favorites. This was a fun auction to preview as it had more fine and formal antiques than some that I do- a pleasant change. Anything catch your eye?

A classic make-do farm table is just the perfect amount rustic

These malachite vases are drop-dead gorgeous!

I'm actively seeking several fine Oriental rugs like this one for the guest house.

An Irish pewter cupboard with the richest patina and such handsome lines.

An 18th century pirate execution order- Not something you see everyday!

How can you resist this antique apothecary cupboard in deep kelly green. It would be so perfect in an entryway!

An amazing coffee table made from a salvaged teak hatchway door.

A mid 20th century Apache basket- stunning!

Love this punched tin pie safe!

I know they're not particularly rare or early, but I always admire the form of a Classical scroll front chest.

A fabulous country landscape.

This sampler is in spectacular condition. The basket of flowers makes me wonder if it's a Maine piece.  My mom quite literally wrote the book on Maine samplers, so we'll ask her.

This impressionist landscape is beautiful

A cheeky Irish setter doorstop.

An amusing pair of folk art horse figures.

I always love a good fire bucket. The gold lettering on this one is super nice.

Stunning exotic still life.

How fun is this folk art painting on panel. Would be fabulous over a mantel in a summer home!

fascinating sconces with lovely verdigris!

I looooove this folk art owl decoy.

Another superb summer landscape.

And my favorite object in the sale- this landscape watercolor, which reminds me of the artwork of J R R Tolkien a bit.

  2. I could believe that it might be one of the bird and basket samplers of Canterbury, New Hampshire since they are identified with that black outline which is quite distinctive. However, if it is a Canterbury piece, it's quite early, perhaps the earliest of all. It's wonderful, wherever it came from!
