Design Inspiration: English Cottage

Spring is in full swing here in Connecticut (hurray!!) with all the trees that fluffy green than comes right before they leaf out, and all the tulips and weeping cherry trees in bloom. It's hard not to get caught up in the romance of it all. Nothing captures the delicate beauty of Spring better than a classic English cottage, nestled in the countryside, bedecked with flowering wisteria vines, and chock full of cheerful knick knacks and floral prints. I love the stark contrast of the delicate finishings with the rustic architecture of the structures- it's the perfect pairing. Here are some beautiful English cottage interiors to get you in the Spring mood- if the lovely weather hasn't already done that!
How perfect is this kitchen?! It's not too matchy matchy- just fun and laid back and beautiful. Also-  look how effective that side table is as a central work station. For those who can't fit a full blown island, this is such a fantastic option!

I love all the colors and movement in this dining space. All the white painted furniture keeps it from being overwhelming.

A great collection of antique prints create an incredible mosaic like art arrangement here

There are few things as pretty as an antique painted farm table used as a night stand. This picture is so charming that I think I've decided to do precisely this in my master bedroom.

The addition of the leather couch and Eames style chair add a modern spin on a classic living room.

Even though the furnishings and the room itself are decidedly rustic, the feel in this space is light and bright and pleasant.

A quintessential English cottage room, with floral textiles used to the maximum.

How stunning is this patio.

And no English cottage would be complete without gardens overflowing with phlox, poppies, and delphiniums !

This wonderful oak desk is piled high with an intriguing assortment of objects, and I love the little tiny round window above it.

So many colors and patters in one tiny kitchen- but it works so well!

I adore this space. LOVE IT. I really wish we had a bay window in our house.

Proof that an English cottage interior doesn't have to be overwhelming- this living room is cozy and sweet, but not at all cluttered.

A stunning little guest room.

By keeping the color palette simple, the gorgeous architectural detail of the kitchen takes center stage.  The abundance of wood and antique touches like the farm sink and chair keep the space from feeling cold or modern.

So many things I adore in one picture- colored demi johns, a green ladder, a greenhouse!!
