I loved this dining set as soon as I set eyes on it. It's definitely been one of the my favorites to work on. The set is vintage, from the 1960s, and just as high quality and fine built as you could possible hope for! The set was in flawless condition, but needed a new updated look. I painted the chairs and table base in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White, which is a wonderful creamy white, then distressed them very lightly, then sealed them with water based poly. The chairs are solid mahogany. yummy! The table top is sanded, stained, and sealed in oil based poly in gloss. It's so smooth it practically squeaks when you run your fingers across it. I forgot to take a 'before' of the chairs, but there is a 'before' of the table.
Enjoy!

I think this turned out very good. I like the way you distressed it and the color looks perfect with the top. The top sure looks glossy I love it.
ReplyDeleteThe table turned out great!! I do have a question, what color stain did you use for the top? I am doing the same thing to my table and chairs and I haven't been able to decide on a stain color. I love the color on your table.
ReplyDeleteThank you Becca Sue! The stain on top is minwax English Chestnut and then six coats of oil based high gloss poly.
DeleteVery pretty!!! I love seeing old table sets being redone :)

Your table is absolutely gorgeous! I would love to do this to my table, but I think under the white paint it might be pressed board not pretty wood like yours. I love the dark top with the white legs. So pretty.

Beautiful job.....a job well done.
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL!!! I've refinished my maple table twice now and haven't achieved the smooth texture you have. I pinned this in hopes to achieve it the next time around. I'd love to know what color you used to stain it.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job!!
What a beautiful finish you achieved!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous makeover! I always love the combo of wood with creamy white paint. I'm featuring it in this week's Power of Paint Party Spotlight.
